Here is a beautiful Dedham Pottery vase hand thrown by Hugh Cornwall Robertson. It has a very good mottled red lustre glaze with some iridescence. It measures 7 3/4 inches in tall and 4 inches in diameter at the widest. Marked with a hand incised Dedham Pottery and Hugh’s conjoined HCR. It is in excellent condition with only some burst bubbles at the foot filled in and no other chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red. Often called experimental, this work is really Hugh's true art pottery and the famous crackle dinnerware was made to keep the firm afloat. He died in 1908. A good piece of sang de boeuf Dedham. If you have any questions please click on our username or visit the store page and feel free to email through our website or call Jim Messineo at JMW Gallery.
