Bibl Cyssegr-lan, This is a rare copy of the Welsh pulpit Bible of 1620. It is the first revision of William Morgan's translation of the complete Bible by Bishop Richard Parry and Dr John Davies.

An annotation above the month of Tachwedd (November) in the Calendar suggests the Bible was at one time used in the parish of Penstrowed (Penystrywaid) the smallest parish in the county of Montgomeryshire / Sir Drefaldwyn, Powys. There are a couple of narrow strips, front and back, the remains of what look like Manorial Accounts (possibly 16th or 17th century) which were bound in the end papers. (see picture)

Text begins with the verso of William Morgan's dedication to Queen Elizabeth I

Has Full Calendar, Old Testament, Apocrypha, New Testament (except the pages lacking mentioned below in the flaws).

MEASUREMENTS: 42cm x 30cm x 12cm

FLAWS: Following pages are lacking:

Title pages, Latin dedication by Richard Parry, beginning of William Morgan's dedication to Elizabeth I, I Ioan yr Apostol 2:12-4:20a, Datcuddiad (Revelation) 11:15 - 22:21.

Otherwise the pages are in good condition for a 400 year old book with some light foxing and light wear to corners.

The margins have not been recut in old repairs, so marginal notes are still whole.

Some water staining at beginning of Bible on edges and gutter up to Genesis 9, rear edges of Bible; then foxing of text from Titus, becoming larger marks in Revelation to end. (See pictures) (Not affecting readability of text)

Binding nails have made small holes in Dedication page and following page.

Small 1-4mm hole in margin from I Ioan 2:1, 5:2, II Ioan 7, III Ioan 1.

Small 1cm hole in margin of Revelation then affecting some letters at Rev. 2:25, 4:11, 5:13, 8 summary, 9 summary, 11:6.

The leather covering of the wooden boards is slightly torn on the edge

The spine has an old leather repair which is cracked open, revealing original leather spine underneath.

This Bible is worth being sensitively rebound.
