After the riot, when 38 young men chosen by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) from hundreds of rioters were being caged, starved and chained, a planeload of USA representatives flew halfway round the world to report on tiger cages in Vietnam. Had they visited Fort Dix stockade these government officials might have been startled to see Bill Brakefield, Tom Catlow, Terry Klug, Jeff Russell and Carlos Rodriguez Torres chained to chairs, to hear first-hand reports of the starvings, beatings and of the leather straps used on young Americans not yet proved innocent or guilty.
