Up for bid is a fine Victorian sterling sauce bowl and underplate by Gorham, dated 1899.  The bowl is about 2 1/2 inches tall by 5 ½ inches in diameter, and the underplate is 7 5/8 inches in diameter.  Together they weigh 509 grams.  The bowl sides and plate rim are decorated with an applied band of wavy scrolls as shown.  The pieces are monogrammed “Margaret Hoe / Jan. 1900” on the plate front and bowl side, and both pieces are engraved “M.E. Dows” on the back.  The pieces are marked with a Gorham trademark over “STERLING”, a date code for 1899, and “A1181M” and “A1182M”, respectively.

Condition on the set is fairly good.  The top monogram on the plate is quite worn, but otherwise there are just a few very minor dings and spots.  A fine set of Gorham silver!
