Note of Interest: Schiffli machines were invented in 1863 by Isakk Grobli. Schiffli embroidery can create a wide range of embroideries and imitation lace forms. In the 1950s, Schiffli Masters would manually craft designs one stitch at a time using the Schiffli machine. The designs were originally created to be stitched with rayon thread, which is more delicate than polyester.
