True vintage B&L Ray-Ban Bausch & Lomb USA Powderhorn sport sunglasses circa 1970’s. Made in USA. Unisex. See measurements below.

Photos are of EXACT pair. Please note that no case is included. Cases available for an additional fee. Please inquire if interested.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. Allow at least five exposures to bright sun to achieve maximum efficiency in the lens darkening process.

2. This pair features a modification. They have color-blocked face frame and temples. The temples are Arcadia model, which are the same specifications as Powderhorn temples.

3. There are a couple of short scratches to the right lens. Replacement/Spare lenses are available for an additional fee. Inquire if interested.

RayBan Bausch & Lomb ambermatic mineral glass lenses with silver double gradient mirror DGM on the outside and gold mirror on the inside. The lenses are made from pure optical glass and are ground and polished to precision-optics standards. Pre-B&L etching, non-prescription and ready for wear with 100% UV protection.

Bausch & Lomb double gradient mirrored lenses were designed to reflect glare in even the most extreme conditions of ice and glacial surroundings. The gold mirror coating on the rear of the lens adds additional UVA and UVB eye protection and also reflects heat from the eye and face.

Ambermatic lenses are made of a unique light-sensing glass that self-adjusts color and density for varying light and weather conditions. Color changes from haze-cutting amber under overcast skies to glare-blocking brown under warm, sunny conditions or dark gray under cold sunny conditions. On cloudy, marginally bright days, they are lighter brown - just right for the light.

There may be hairline (short and light) scratches and/or pinpricks from storage. There are two short scratches to the right lens. The scratches go through the exterior mirror. There are some short hairline scratches near those scratches that do not go through the mirror, but we’re visible upon close inspection under ring light. Please see photos and closeups.

Retro cool acetate face frame features 3 layers of coordinating hues: navy blue, white, and tan. Acetate temples feature navy blue, white, and sky blue layers.

A raised Ray-Ban logo emblem adorns each temple in silver tone metal. I have given them a light polish with a precious metals polishing cloth. The inside of the right temple is impressed with BAUSCH & LOMB U.S.A. The inside of the left temple is impressed with ARCADIA.

Hinges operate well. Screws have been replaced with NOS vintage B&L screws to ensure they are removable and will last you another 50 years. Slight tarnishing of metal parts.

There are light scratches to the acetate frame from storage. The temples have been lightly hand polished. Should you choose to polish the face frame yourself, you will want to remove or cover the lenses first.

This pair may benefit from a professional sonic cleaning to remove any dust between where the lenses meet the frame. Please be aware that I have not overlooked deep cleaning these crevices. I try to handle and clean “special” types of lenses as little as possible - often only using cool water to rinse - to avoid inadvertently scratching the mirrored finish.

I would plan on needing to see an optician to have these custom fitted for you. Most have the equipment necessary to properly align the face frame and temples (and will make this adjustment for free).

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Fit:

I recommend a custom fitting with an optician, optometrist, or other equivalent. The temples can be heated up to provide you with an optimal, customized fit. Lenses can also be replaced with prescription lenses. Do not attempt to make adjustments on your own! If done improperly you can cause irreparable damage. I don’t take returns and especially cannot be of assistance if any adjustments (professional or otherwise) have been made or attempted.

Cleaning and Care:

I recommend using a hard or semi-hard case for storage and optimal protection. Rinse glasses with cool water if they become dusty and allow them to dry before cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth and lens cleaner. Never clean with a dry cloth alone. Do not leave sunglasses in direct sunlight and/or extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, such as a car glovebox. Hinges and emblems may be polished with a silver polishing cloth. They may be lubricated with WD-40 if needed.

Condition:

These are vintage sunglasses and my family has been the only owner. They are not perfect. Do not expect perfection or you will be disappointed. They are 50+ years old and are in excellent vintage condition. They have never been worn. You should still have a proper fitting by an eye specialist. Condition is subjective and based on my personal expertise, but is still an opinion nonetheless. Evaluation of condition takes into consideration the condition of a given pair relative to others of the same or similar model, from the same time period and brand.

Please also note that there may be glare and reflection spots in the photos. Photos taken indoors in natural sunlight and/or under white ring light. Colors may differ slightly in real life due to differences in device/monitor settings and lighting conditions. (And of course, photochromatic properties will play a role in how the lenses appear at any given point in time!) Photos are of the exact pair you will receive.
