FRONT-------The arms of Norway (a crowned shield with the description "den norske løve" (the Norwegian Lion), wielding an axe), one of the oldest coat of arms in Europe with a variation of this image being used by Norwegian rulers since 1280 when King Eirik Magnussen added the crown and silver (argent) axe to the lion. The axe is the martyr axe of St. Olav, the weapon used to kill him in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030.
