Antique Plangi and Tritik Silk Shawl, Palembang, Sumatra - a rectangular silk textile with decoration by means of plangi (rainbow tie-dye) and tritik (stitched and gathered resist) processes in orange, green and purple on a maroon ground in floral designs, geometric forms and  six boteh  shapes in a row on either end with zig-zag patterns as the border. The two ends are finished by metallic laced trim extending to a short fringe.

Distressed condition with multiple, pin holes, breaks and repairs.

Weft 33 in. Warp 84.5 in. (84 x 215cm)

Early 20th Century.
