Antique pith painting taken from a silk covered album containing a wonderful concertina of 12 hand-painted images of butterflies plus a few insects. The album was in a fascinating collection of accessories and decorative items inherited by my mother-in-law from her great-uncle’s wife - Lady Georgina (Gina) Chambers 1874-1960 - photo of her shown. Lady Georgina’s name, and ‘Richmond’ are written in pencil on the inside of the album as shown. Dimensions: approximately: Album: 20.5cm x 14.5cm. With duck egg coloured mounts: 17.5cm x 12.5cm. Minus mount: 14.6cm x 9.5cm. Further loose butterfly pith paintings have been framed in faux-bamboo frames by my mother-in-law and the look spectacular. The quality and skill of the paintings is evident despite the poor photos - better photos to follow.
