Original 1921 color lithographed map of the United States showing named trails, airplane routes, and national camps, printed more than 100 years ago.

  • The image area measures 32.5 x 50.4 cm [12¾" x 19¾"], and the map is copyrighted 1921 in the lower margin.

  • It was compiled by the L.L. Poates Engraving Company, New York.

  • Before the federal highway numbering system was implemented, major automobile routes were known and marked as "named trails."

  • Among the ones labeled on the map are the Lincoln Highway, Midland Trail, Pacific Highway, Wonderland Trail, Camino Real, Southern Highway, and Black & Yellow Trail.

  • Named national camps, also known as forts or military bases, include Beauregard, Kearney, Cody, Macarthur, Jackson, Dix, Mills, Upton, and Lewis.

  • Marked aeroplane routes also include distances in miles.

  • Condition:  This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with two vertical folds, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

  • It is an original, authentic 1921 map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.

  • There's a map of the world on the reverse side, showing steamship routes, submarine cables, and railroads. The legend key identifies colonial possessions.

  • Either side would make a handsome display, and we'll include our helpful framing tips with your purchase.
