Welcome to Fine Arts

1. An extremely rare framed photograph postcard hand signed by Alfred Dreyfus ("A. Dreyfus"), by C. Coquelin (imprint lower right margin).

Date: Circa 1906.

Approximate Dimensions: 5 3/8 x 5 7/16 in, with margins.

Printed text on verso ("Carte Postale Ce côté est exclusivement réserveé à l'adresse").

Condition is like new as pictured and I had it framed in London with a lovely walnut frame.

Similar one sold at Christies in 2007 for $4200.

2. One brick from the shack of Alfred Dreyfus located on Devil’s Island
The AP stands for Administration Pénitentiaire.

3. One brick from the foundation of the Leper Colony that was on the island in the middle of the Maroni river.

The St. Jean stands for Briqueterie de St. Jean (Penal Brick making factory in the town of St. Jean)
St. Jean is a town on the Maroni River, just up stream from St. Laurent, in French Guiana which also housed a prison.

The bricks were hand made by prisoners from the local clay and then sent down river by steamship and out to the Devil's Island prison.

The local jungle clay is a little whiter than most red bricks.
