These highly collectible plates were made with sometimes as many as 17 layers of colored pigments on top of the deeply black porcelain, embellished with 18kt gold.
On the back is written in Russian (see photos for translation) describing the piece and its production.

This collectible plate depicts the Russian legend of The Princess Elena and Ivan. It is a single-piece work of art, hand-painted on porcelain in the traditional Palekh style. The colorful multi-color design showcases scenes from Russian fairy tales and legends. THE BACK
