Awarded for both combat and non combat actions that was not of sufficient duration to merit award of the Iron Cross 2 Class. Of note, the War Service Cross 2 class could be awarded to personnel who had already won either or both the Iron Cross 2 Class. When the War Service Cross 2 Class was awarded, only the ribbon was subsequently worn on the uniform.
