LEGENDS OF SPAIN!!

These stunning colorful original Spanish banknotes were issued almost 100 years ago. They are legendary in terms of their beautiful engraving, large size, and legendary subjects - the great painter Velazquez and the great Spanish ruler Philip II (Felipe II).

The 1928 50 Peseta note shows Velazquez as he appeared in his own self portrait, flanked by the magnificent Prado Art Museum in Madrid. The reverse displays his famous painting, the Surrender of Breda.
It was completed during the years 1634–35, inspired by Velázquez's visit to Italy with Ambrogio Spinola, the Genoese-born Spanish general who conquered Breda on June 5, 1625.

The even larger 1925 100 Peseta note portrays King Philip II, one of the most powerful rulers in European history.
Philip was not only King of Spain, but also King of Portugal, King of Naples and Sicily, and jure uxoris King of England and Ireland. He was also Duke of Milan, and from 1555 lord of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands. Flanking his portrait is the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo.

The intriguing reverse, by the painter Alvarez, shows the King atop his mountain retreat at Escorial. He stands in solitude in the silence of the hot midday sun as his ministers busy themselves with a document, his soldiers lounge in the shadows, and his guard dog sits in the foreground.

These bills are typically found heavily circulated with hard folds, splits, stains, soiling or other impairments. However, the offered notes remain very choice clean and crisp with the look of "uncirculated".  Compare to "Uncirculated" notes selling at 2 to 4 times the price (for example, the same denominations in XF and AU sold in a Heritage Auction for $47.00 on 10/4/2011 - Lot 32048).
