In the Post World War ll era, Howard Hughes, the owner of TWA was a dominant force in expanding and promoting the routes flown by his company. As the economy was vastly improving, airline travel for business and pleasure was on the upswing and posters such as this were instrumental in promoting this form of travel. This Africa poster was created by the gifted American artist David Klein (1918 -2005), and depicts a group of zebras as the main figures in a very geometric style. The black and white of the animals contrast perfectly with the bright reds and oranges of the background; thus giving the poster a very harmonized composition.

Klein was best known for his influential work in advertising. Although he produced illustrations for Broadway theatrical productions, Hollywood films, the United States Army, and numerous corporate clients, Klein is best remembered for the iconic travel images he created for Howard Hughes and Trans World Airlines (TWA) during the 1950's and 1960's.
