Solid Silver chess set +2 extra queens, 925 sterling, new 100% hand made by VLD silversmith, medieval design, British hallmarks.

As far as I’m aware, this is the only sterling silver chess set with British hallmarks on the market!

The chess board is NOT part of the sale as it appears in the pictures for presentation only.

Other models of bespoke sterling silver chess sets can be made by order.

Exquisite brand new, medieval design solid silver chess set, first of its kind out of an upcoming limited edition series. This chess set is 100% hand made by traditional methods and its composition is only sterling (925) solid silver. It’s not weighted with any other materials! It has a total of 34 pieces as 2 extra queens are complementary added for your comfort. The total weight of the set is over 2186.8 grams (2.19 kilos) of sterling silver. Every piece of the set has been hallmarked with a full set of 2023 British hallmarks plus the coronation hallmark (head of our new king, HRH Charles the 3rd), plus serial number 001, as this chess set is the first of its kind, out of a limited edition. The chess set has been made by a registered silversmith and laser hallmarked by the London Assay Office.

Hallmarks:

VLD shield - sponsor’s mark (the registered silversmith’s mark)

Lion passant - traditional British mark (symbol) for sterling silver

925 - fineness mark for sterling silver (at least 92.5% of pure silver in composition)

Leopard’s head - London Assay Office mark

Letter “Y” - year 2023 mark

Head of HRH King Charles the 3rd - coronation mark

“001” serial number - first chess set of its limited series mark

For the ones who might not be familiar with the hallmarking process, you might want to know that the ONLY WAY to obtain British hallmarks on any piece of precious metal as silver, gold or platinum, is the following:

Silversmith/goldsmith has to be registered with one of the few Assay offices in the UK, and obtain from there its own mark (punch, sponsor’s mark) which is usually a shield containing a few letters chosen by the silversmith/goldsmith.

After the precious metal item is created by the silversmith/goldsmith, it will be sent to the Assay Office to be tested for its purity and hallmarked accordingly. The Assay Offices have got obviously, the best precious metal testing equipment. The Assay Offices are the ONLY legal authority in the UK to apply British hallmarks on precious metals products! No one else has the right to do that!

Dimensions, weight and other details will be covered by the pictures as well, and are as follows:

As they are individually hand made, the weight of them varies between 1-3 grams from each other (similar pieces), but the weight stated above, belongs to the lightest of them. Below, I’ll calculate the total weight accordingly:

King x 2 = 208g

Queen x 4 = 310g

Bishop x 4 = 312g

Knight x 4 = 390g

Rook x 4 = 282g

Pawn x 16 = 684.8g

Full set (34 pieces) = 2186.8 grams (2.19 kilos of sterling silver)

Please consider photos as part of the description as they represent the actual chess set, and do not hesitate to ask any questions regarding this sale.

The basic 32 pieces of the set will arrive to you safely packed, in the pictured wooden presentation case, and the two extra queens will be next to the wooden box, inside the cardboard box.

The “black” pieces were discreetly painted on the top with enamel paint, just enough to be distinguished by the players and at the same time to remain in all their silver splendour. By order, the “black” pieces can be gold plated, but you have to be aware that the waiting time for preordering the future sets will be at least one month.

Please be aware that, being a hand made product, some of the pieces might have very tiny imperfections from the casting process which couldn’t be removed without affecting the integrity of it. However, this doesn’t affect their functionality or their design.

If you don’t have a serious eBay profile please stay away, as I might cancel the sale if I’ll consider that something is not right. If your profile is quite new with just a few feedbacks, please contact me in advance.

Collection will be welcomed in Edgware HA8.

Thanks for looking!

Because this is an expensive item I had to contact eBay and ask for a higher selling limit, which has been accepted after a thorough check, so you can be 100% confident buying from this account!
