This is about a 37 year old husband and father who was drafted. The GI was assigned to General Patton's 3rd Army, 7th armored division, 38th armored infantry The 7th began combat in mid August 1944. This book is filled with various stories of his service. About a month after he enters combat his company is hit hard and the survivors are trapped behind lines, including this GI who was slightly wounded by shell fire. A day later they make it back to their lines nad he is sent to a hospital. A sympathetic doctor, noting his age and family situation, sends him back to England with this minor arm wound After healing he is then sent to an ordinance unit as a clerk. that was the end of his combat.

Drafted when he was 37 years old, this is the story of Dale Hubley - his life and service during World War II as a member of the Seventh Armored Division in Patton's Third Army. Being drafted when he was older change his life in many way but he was never bitter. He would always say, "I was one of the lucky ones, I got to come home."
