Silver Numismatic Bullion Dormition Abbey 5th in the “Holy Land Sites” Series

Dormition Abbey
5th in the “Holy Land Sites” Numismatic Bullion Series

The Dormition Abbey is believed to have been where Mary, Jesus’ mother, entered her internal sleep. “Dormito” means “sleep” in Latin, which is the reason the church was named “The Abbey of the Dormition,” in honor of Mary. The church is located at mount Zion in Jerusalem, close to the southern wall of the old city, near Zion’s Gate and David’s Tomb.
In 1898 the Emperor of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm the 2nd visited the Holy Land. While his stay in the region, Kaiser Wilhelm the 2nd received the land in which the Dormition Abbey is placed today from the Ottoman sultan and was entitled to build The Dormition Abbey church in 1910. The church is built in Romanesque architecture, as can be seen in the magnificent roundness of the church architecture, with a diameter of 15 meters.
According to the Christian tradition, Mary did not die as an ordinary mortal but fell into an internal sleep and was picked up by her son Jesus into the heavens. Mount Zion is believed to be the location from where Mary was brought up into the heavens.

Israel Coins and Medals

Relive the Past, Preserve the Present, Ensure the Future

Israel Coins and Medals Corp. (ICMC) was established in 1958 by Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion. Its purpose was then, and still is, to commemorate the national and historic events of the State of Israel and its outstanding personalities, and the milestones in our culture, art and people. ICMC was designated an ambassador for the distribution of the legal tender commemorative coins issued by the Bank of Israel and the Israel State Medals, as well as for the promotion of Israeli artistry and Judaica.

ICMC was fully owned by the Israel Government until 2008, when it was privatized and bought by the G.R.A.S. Group. In the privatization agreement, ICMC pledged to the Government that it would maintain the company's traditional character and scope of activity. Today, ICMC operates in a wide range of activities, with special emphasis on production and global promotion of gold and silver for investment under The Holy Land Mint trademark.
