It is in very good antique condition.

FUCHI is a the hilt collar between tsuka and the tsuba. Kashira is the butt cap (pommel) at the end of the tsuka.
Both of these fittings usually come as a set with a similar design on Japanese antique swords.
This piece is the FUCHI and it is from late Edo period

Traditionally is usually made from iron with inlays or carving or different alloys like Shakudo or Shibuichi and sometimes silver or brass. The inlays (zogan) are done with silver or gold.

This beautiful piece is made from Shakudo and have very nice Inlay of Shakudo and gold with the Design of the Peony Flower and craquelure pattern.
Peony flower is a common motive for Japanese fittings - it represents Honor, courage and strength.

It shows beautiful detail of the workmanship of the maker.
