This had come from a Civil War collectors personal collection. This is a marriage certificate for a soldier that served in the Civil War on the 21st Infantry Regiment in Massachusetts. On the marriage certificate, the soldiers tin type photo and his wife's is at the top. The soldier and his wife was married in 1863, but the certificate itself looks to have been made the year the soldier passed which was 1901. There a copyright at the bottom of the certificate for 1901 and nineteen hundred was crossed out and changed to 1800. It looks as though they made the certificate before he passed, I would think for sentimental reasons. It does have the original statement from the Reverend for their marriage that is also included. There was also quite a bit of research done about this soldier and information provided with official records such as Memorandum From Prisoner of War Records, Certificate of Disability for Discharge, etc. that will all be included with the sale. I have pictures of them with the listing. The marriage certificate frame measures 11.75"x 16.75" and the Reverend statement measures 11"x 9". Please review pics and feel free to reach out with any questions.
