English description:
This scarce, complete and very decorative series of optical views ("peepshow" / "vue d'optique") depicts the seven Wonders of the World as they were known in the 18th century. The copper engravings show the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, in Halicarnassus, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and the Colosseum in Rome. All seven copper engravings bear a title in four languages and show their strong original colours. They were published by Georg Balthasar Probst in 1760 in Augsburg, Bavaria. All of them measure 28 x 41 cm (plate size). They are in good condition with some light browning due to age and a few unobtrusive crinkles and stains.(These flaws are invisible when framed under a passepartout). Scarce, especially as a complete series. Reference: Sixt v. Kapff K415ff.; Minici, Mondo 290-294 (5 sheets)
