Richard Batterham (1936-2021) lidded caddy with Green ash and black ash Glaze #1043

Instantly recognisable as by Richard Batterham by its shape and glaze colour.

Richard is viewed collectively by studio pottery collectors and studio potters themselves as an iconic master potter who trained at the Leach pottery before starting out on his own.

Potting for 6 decades his work is always sought after.

The piece has two small chips, one on the rim of the caddy and the other on the underside of the rim on the lid (please see photograph).

Neither is particularly detrimental cannot be seen when the lid is on but they are there.

Richard Batterham’s work is becoming increasingly more valuable at auction.

There is a label still attached to the underside of the lid which shows 25. I have seen this writing before. I believe this was the original ticket when it was sold at Durweston.

The last photograph is in line with the small chips.

An identical caddy sold at auction for almost £700 at the end of November

Measures 14 cm in height

13 cm in diameter at its midriff.
