Up for sale is KEPC FM Broadcast Automation Music Reel To Reel Tape Vol 302/304

The box is in very good plus condition and the reel tape itself is also in very good plus condition for its age; the sound quality is still remarkably stellar according to my TEAC X-1000R. This reel tape runs at 3 3/4IPS 4 track stereo.

What are these Automation Tapes?

***** In 1991 I was taking broadcast classes at the community college in Colorado Springs, CO.. At that time, the campus radio station KEPC was giving away a huge stack of its automation tape music for free; to make room for the newer music.

The best stuff was already picked through, but I still found a good sized stack of tapes I liked and took them home with me. I would have liked to carry home more than I did, but I could only carry so many with me on the bus; which was already heavy on my arms.

The original automation tapes were wound on 10” reels, and I only had a 7” reel tape machine. So I bought numerous 7” empty reels and boxes from Radio Shack.

I was able to wind most of the 10” reel tape down to 7” reels; and going the proper direction for playback.

The left over tape on the 10” reel was spliced with other left over 10” Reel tapes, and wound the correct direction to another empty 7” reel.

The downside to doing this was, half a song on the second side would get cut; while preserving the entire song at the end of side one.

I did pack on as much tape on the empty reel as possible, so you might have some tape spillage as you thread it through your machine. You only need to keep good tension on the full reel with your hand or fingers to prevent this. But after you get it threaded properly to play, you’re good to go.

The original tapes themselves I believe are Scotch, and don’t suffer at all from SSS. I have owned these tapes since 1991, I play them every once in a while, with no problems at all.

All of the music on these tapes was recorded from original LP Records found in the campus radio station library. Class students or perhaps the instructor did the actual recording and labeling of the automation tapes.

Recording was done on a professional Pioneer RT-909 Reel Tape recorder, with equalization patched in.

Two of these were used in the automation system for playback.

You will hear cue tones every so often, and you might even hear the KEPC FM station jingle.

All of the music is from the early 1960’s through the mid 1980’s and covers Rock, Pop, Disco, R&B and maybe a little country.

Each side of tape is approximately 2 hours long, giving you 4 hours of music playing time; at 3 3/34IPS.

The audio quality on these tapes is still very exceptional for its age, Scotch tapes tended to do this, so you won’t be disappointed.

This is a 4 track stereo reel tape, so it will play on any 7” reel to reel tape recorder you have.

I have included the song lists for these tapes, but it’s possible one list might have gone missing somewhere during moving.

Either way, I’m sure you will enjoy listening, and having some good memories; even if a song list to a side might be missing.

I have to sell all of my reel tapes, because I have some seriously expensive medical bills and debt consolidation to pay ASAP.

I have Osteoarthritis in my back and knees, making me work a part time job; with very limited income.

I am willing to sell off my personal possessions to cover my immediate medical bills; and EBay’s steep cut of its very greedy fees.

I do appreciate your understanding and willingness to help me, by buying my items.

Shipping is Free for you, and I will ship media mail with tracking if you purchase more than one item from me.
