A lovely 8” Madame Alexander #541 Mary Mary from the Storyland Doll Series, ca. 1983. New in original box with original tags - never displayed or played with.

The Alexander Doll Company was founded in 1923 by Beatrice Alexander, aka Madame Alexander, and is still in operation today in New York, NY USA. The Alexander-Kins, Wendy, Wendy-Kins dolls, which are 7 1/2 - 8" tall, used the Wendy face mold from 1954-1994. Many of these dolls are either unmarked or marked ALEXANDER or ALEX.

This is a very pretty 8” Madame Alexander doll dressed as Mary Mary Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow, #541. She has blue sleep eyes that open and shut. Her light blond hair is in its original set with tight curls at her neck and a curly top ponytail. Her face has lovely painted features. She has that sweet Madame Alexander Wendy face lip pucker.

She is a strung plastic doll with a socket head, and jointed arms and straight legs. The rubber bands used to string her were dry rotted out so she was restrung with elastic to last longer.

Her dress consists of a purple with pink and turquoise flowers calico print cotton with lace trim at her neck and sleeve hems. She has a pink cotton apron with three pockets and green ric-a-rac trim. The pockets each hold a bouquet of pink and blue flowers. The dress is tagged in back with a label that reads: “Mary Mary” / by MADAME ALEXANDER / New York, USA. The dress closes with two snaps in back. The outfit is clean and crisp.

On her head she has a pink ribbon holding her pony tail in place. She has a blue plastic watering can tied to her right wrist.

Her under garments consist of white cotton pantaloons with 2 rows of lace trim at the hem and a white cotton gathered slip with lace trim at the hem and gathered netting to help hold her skirt out. She wears white nylon socks and black faux suede shoes. She will come with a Kaiser Chicago metal doll stand.

She also retains her original wrist tag tied to her left wrist; it has a copyright date of 1983.

Her Madame Alexander blue box is labeled MARY MARY 451. It is in excellent condition with some minor wear and retains the inner neck brace to hold her in place when boxed.
