Up for sale is Drake Chenault Contemporary 300 2 Track Stereo Music Reel Tape 5/07/86 7.5IPS.

The box is in very good plus condition and the reel tape itself is also in very good plus condition for its age; the sound quality is still remarkably stellar according to my TEAC X-1000R. This reel tape runs at 7.5IPS 2 track stereo.

What Are These Drake Chenault Reel Tapes?

***** In the mid 90’s, I was one day browsing through the classified section of the NAB (National Association Of Broadcasters) newspaper.

I came across an ad of a midwestern radio station selling off its library of Drake Chenault 80’s music reel tapes.

I was quite interested, as I was getting back into the pop and New Wave 80’s music then.

They wanted a fair price for each tape, so I asked them to send me 12 of their tapes; spanning from early to mid 80’s.

They arrived on 10” reels, 2 Track Stereo, one direction, 7.5IPS, an hour in length approximately.

I only had a 7” Reel Tape machine, so I had an easier time winding them to 7” empty reels & boxes; going the proper direction for playback.

Being it’s an hour long of music, they fit the 7” reels perfectly.

I believe they used good quality Scotch tape that doesn’t get SSS.

I have played these reel tapes every so often, I have yet to notice any wear or SSS. The production quality is of course very high quality for FM broadcast at 7.5IPS.

I’m selling half of my collection, with song lists included. These tapes will play on your 4 track Reel Tape machine, being that it’s 2 Track Stereo in one direction only.

At the end, you will have to rewind the tape, unless you like to hear all of the songs backwards for subliminal messages. Recording on Side 2 is not recommended, as it might interfere with the Side 1 recording.
