Vintage
fold-out 1934 Conoco road map of Florida and Georgia, printed more than
90 years
ago.
- The map opens to 24" x 18"
and has great detail on old highway
alignments and route numbers, with cartography by H.M.
Gousha.
- Florida is on one side, with
a map of Cuba;
Georgia is on the other,
with inset plans of Atlanta, Jacksonville, Savannah, and Miami.
- The map was published in 1934 by the Continental Oil
Company of
Denver,
Colorado to promote its Conoco brand gasoline and motor oil.
- It is
dated by the code letter in the lower margin: H. Population data is
from the 1930 census.
-
Little triangle symbols locate Conoco service stations, although the Conoco
brand
was not well established in these two states, with only a dozen or so
in
Georgia, located in the Atlanta and Savannah areas, and none
in Florida.
- Condition: This map is in rough but generally
good, used
condition, complete and intact, with scattered pencil marks, light
soil, and a few spots and stains.
