Welcome to Milkweed Antiques.

This early celluloid pinback button was a freebie given out to advertise "Bill Dugan Cigars". The button says "Bill Dugan Cigars" at the top. It has a red, white, and blue flag border. In the center is a bust of a man I am assuming is to represent Bill Dugan. It does have it's original paper liner on the inside that tells us the manufacturer was "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. - Newark, N.J. - Patented - July 17, 1894 - April 14, 1896 - July 21, 1896". Also on the bottom edge of the celluloid it is marked "Pat. July 21, 1896". This pinback button has a 7/8" diameter and is just over 1/8" thick. It is from c.1910s.

This button was used and is early. There is no foxing to the celluloid. It does not have any cracks. There are a couple of scuffs and scratches. Please see my pictures. They help with the description. My price reflects the condition.
