Offered by Over The Blue Horizon and recently obtained in Tokyo is a superb publication from Model Art: “ALL ABOUT IMPERIAL JAPANESE NAVY HEAVY CRUISERS 1922-1945”.

Covered in this publication are the 18 Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) heavy cruisers built from 1922–1945.  These vessels fell into six different classes: FURUTAKA, AOBA, MYOKO, TAKAO, MOGAMI and TONE.  The coverage is broken down into nine sections. The first section, thirty-six pages long, covers each class and each vessel with nicely-done line drawings. The second section covers the armament found on these vessels ranging from the main guns to the anti-aircraft guns including torpedoes, and radar arrays.  The third section provides detail drawings of the TAKAO, and Section Four are photographs of the bridges of some 1/350 scale builds. Sections five through nine cover modeling the IJN Heavy Cruisers in 1/700 scale. Next up is a tips and tricks section on how to “accurize” your models. These tips are all shown in full color photographs. The remaining sections are full builds of the KUMANO, MOGAMI, SUZUYA and CHIKUMA.  Text is in Japanese with limited English language captions and the illustrative detail throughout is OUTSTANDING.
