Offered is this set of four vintage white scalloped-edge porcelain china cups and saucers, made by Alfred Meakin of Staffordshire, England. All eight pieces are part of Meakin's "Birds of America" series. The four saucers are marked and include #17, the Carolina Turtle Dove, #18, Bewick's Wren, #62, Passenger Pigeon and # 79, Kingbird. The cups are unmarked, but two match the saucers: #18 Bewick's Wren and #62 Passenger Pigeon. Comparing the birds on one of the other cups to plates I also have for sale, one cup is #367 Band-Tailed Pigeon but I do not know which bird is on the fourth cup.

Three of the cups are approx. 4 3/8" across, including the handles, while the Passenger Pigeon cup is slightly larger, about 4 1/2" across, including the handle. Each saucer is about 5 1/2" in diameter. All of the cups are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches, although there are probably some light marks from use. The saucers have no chips or cracks, but there is considerable wear to the painted bird picture on each.
