Compagnie
Générale Transatlantique (CGT) is a French shipping company.
Founded in 1855 by the Péreire brothers under the name Compagnie
Générale Maritime, it was charged by the State with ensuring the
transport of mail to North America and took its final name in
1861. In 1883, four large-scale liners speed are put into service
for Cruises. But the “Transat” is not content with operating
the North Atlantic line, and offers its travelers lines to Central
America, and even, for a time, the Pacific coast.
This

particularly in Jamaica, Venezuela, Colombia and the Antilles.
