This is an old stock certificate from the Hope Gold Company, issued to T. S. Swan & Co. for 200 shares on Sept. 11, 1866 and signed by Secretary J. P. Davies and Treasurer Walter E. Lawton (these names are as near as I can tell, may actually be a bit different).  Certificate states "Issued for the Purchase of Mining Property in Colorado" at bottom, and Hollister's "The Mines of Colorado" does list the Hope Gold Company in Gilpin County (p. 216).
