MAX7219 DIP24 8-Digit LED Display Drivers are compact, serial input/output common-cathode display drivers that interface microprocessors to 7-segment numeric LED displays of up to 8 digits, to bar-graph displays, or to 64 individual LEDs. Included on-chip are a BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8x8 static RAM that stores each digit. Only one external resistor is required to set the segment current for all LED.

These handle all of the LED display output refreshing.  When it comes to controlling dot-matix displays, there is hardly a better option than the MAX7219.  It can easily control a single dot matrix and, for larger projects, it can be chained together to control two or more dot matrices.  These are perfect for LTP305 displays also!

See photos for pinout and typical layout.  Example photo shows a MAX7219 driving an LTP305G display - this listing only includes 1 Max7219 - see other listings for LTP305 dot displays (and how to wire a Max7219 to them)
