A antique travelling novelty writing set, in the form of a hand gun which includes a Inkwell, Dip Pen and Pencil. The set cleverly stores away inside the gun, with the telescopic dip pen located in the carved wooden handle, the pencil forming the barrel and the glass inkwell hidded away, inside the bullet chamber.
The pencil measures approx 9.5cm (3 3/4") long closed x 11cm (3 3/8") open and not including its attached bale ring, the dip pen is 6cm (2 3/8") cm long closed x 9cm (3 9/16") open.
The pencil does not have a propelling mechanism for the lead and is activated by pushing in the button at the end of its barrel and letting it go, which releases the spring loaded mechanism and shoots the pencil lead holder out, ready for use. It was manufactured in Germany during the Victorian period and is made of nickel plated metal, glass, wood and rubber.
It is in good condition, with some age related wear to its nickel plating and the glass inkwell having no inkstaining to its red rubber seal. The dip pen has a telescoping mechanism and its nib holder screws into the barrel. It looks new, with no wear or damage and comes with its original nib.
I have included a nickel plated lead holder, which dates to a same period and contains some spare 2mm thick leads for the pencil. The writing set is not only functional, but is also a great conversation piece and rare collectable item, which is in good condition. Please see photos
