Drawing on oral histories from three archives in the Deep South, Waking Up to War: The Shock of Pearl Harbor tells the story of the home front, war preparations, foreign relations, and the attack that launched the U.S. into World War II. Veterans and civilians alike talk about the mood of the nation in the momentous days surrounding December 7, 1941. Compiled by the Deep South Regional Humanities Center at Tulane University, these twelve interviews on compact disc mark the day that "will live in infamy" and the effects of the attack on Southern life. Witnesses to the bombing join civilians at home in remembering.
