Unfortunately the device does not record. Once pressing the record button after placing a tape within the machine it makes some noise like it's trying to record and then shuts down. Outside of that it accepts tapes and ejects as it should.

I've given it my best shot at trying to repair it myself. Unfortunately did a bit of damage during the process as a bit of brittle plastic snapped off when putting the camera back together (see photos).

It's possible that the machine just needs a new belt but trying myself didn't give me much luck. Hopefully you have better luck then I did.
