This whetstone is from old whetstone shop specially for Aiiwadani and Shoubudani in Kyoto.
The Aiiwatani stone has moderate hardness, fine texture, and strong polishing power.
As it has similar quality to Nakayama stone, we recommend you one especially for finishing
of kamisori razor honing.

Fore sides of this listing stone is already coated with waterproof lacquer.
Since the whetstone is made of sedimentary rock, if water is absorbed from the side of the
 whetstone, the layers may separate.
As a preventive measure, coating the sides of the whetstone with a waterproof coating such as
lacquer or cashew to prevent water absorption from the side of the whetstone will prevent layer delamination,
and this is the secret to making the whetstone last longer.

Aiiwadani is a whetstone mine located in Shiga Prefecture near Kyoto where whetstones similar to
Nakayama can be produced. Can be used for a wide variety of purposes such as kamisori razor, chisels, planes, knives, etc.
