The crankshaft with back and front wall can be easily rotated  180° so the exaust can be located either front or back

The slide valve in this engine has two holes for the crank specially designed  for this occasion,so when you rotate the crankshaft you just place the crank in another hole of slide valve so to keep the phases of the engine the same,and thats it.
