This is a set of six 1847 Rogers Bros Vintage Grape dinner forks.

1847 Rogers Vintage was the premier pre World War I silverplate pattern, in production from 1904 until 1918. In this pattern, popularly called Vintage Grape, there are over 100 different pieces, both place and serving. The sales for Vintage exceeded that of any pattern until First Love appeared in 1937. Vintage is an Art Nouveau design of grapes, tendrils, vines and leaves in a well balanced handle that fits the hand beautifully. Vintage remains one of the leading sellers in antique silverplate today, with many folks filling out an inherited set. Hollow handle forks basically use a knife handle attached to tines. The heyday of these was from 1890 to 1917, with some being made into the 1920s. The effect is quite elegant and massive. The objections to them always were that they were awkward for small hands to use, and so heavy they frequently broke fragile china. Hollow handle forks are often found with some tine wear and plate loss. People who had them REALLY liked them, and they tended to get a lot of use. However, they do still look elegant. It is somewhat hard to find this type of fork without tine wear. The tines on the forks offered here are in fine shape. The 4 hollow handle dinner forks offered here measure about 7 3/4". These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 115 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. There is no tine wear on the tips of the tines. The pattern is crisp and clear.
