The Janus Press was started in Monterey in 1954 by Claire Van Vliet with the first publication on Valentine’s Day 1955 in San Diego. The Janus Press prints limited editions of (mostly) contemporary poets with original images in paper and all the printmaking media. The press focuses on the form of the book being dictated by the content and that has led to the development of innovative book structures.
