General Material Information - Copper C101

This grade of material refers to coppers of 99.9% purity and is used in a wide range of engineering applications.

After Silver, Copper is the next best material used for conducting electricity. Since it also has a high thermal conductivity, this material is a good choice for use in conductor and electrical applications. Copper also has good mechanical properties in terms of toughness, ductility, impact strength and is also malleable.

The machinability of this grade of copper is rated as 20. To give context to this, a CZ121 Free machining brass is rated to approximately 100. The hot and cold working performance of C101 Copper is given as excellent. Work hardening effects set in relatively slowly, and the material can be annealed in neutral and oxidising atmospheres. Heat treatments such as this can be carried out by a rapid cooling process after heating to 370 to 650 degrees C.

The corrosive resistance of this material can be described as either good or excellent in most environmental conditions, except those containing ammonia ions.

C101 can be easily soldered, brazed and butt welded. Other welding processes are not recommended.
