I skimmed the intro of the book. This started as a family geology project. about a Prussian. The original work did not cover his military time in much detail. This work was a continuation of the original work and he went into more detail about the military career aspects of this officer. . The man enlists to serve in the Regular Army. The man rose in the ranks of the Regular Army's 2nd US Artillery. He was in three different companies of this artillery unit during his service. It seems he moved up the ranks, was demoted a few times, rose again and ended up as an officer. He served in the Trans-Mississippi Theater of the war and was in some major battles; Wilson's Creek and Corinth. It mentioned he was wounded at Corinth The officer was termed a deserter at the end of the war and was not mustered out. . the back of the book has rosters with mini soldier biographies of the three companies.
