I have here for sale a book entitled CHITRAL The Story of a Minor Siege by SIR GEORGE S ROBERTSON With Thirty-Two Illustrations, a Map and Four Plans Second Edition published by Methuen & Co., London, in 1899.  First published in 1898.  This book is an account of the Siege of Chitral when Sir George Robertson led a force of 400 troops from Gilgit to intervene in a local coup.  He became besieged in the fort at Chitral until it was relieved by two smaller expeditions.  The book includes 32 full-page b/w plates, 1 fold-out Reconnaissance Sketch of Enemy's Position at Nisa Gol, 3 full-page plans/sketches, and 1 large fold-out Map of Chitral and Surrounding Countries at the back of the book. 

Maroon cloth boards with a gilt illustration of Chitral Fort and gilt lettering on the front board.  Minor marks on the boards with a couple of dents along the edges.  Gilt lettering on the spine with some wear to the top and bottom.  Rough cut page edges.  Browning to endpapers.  Name of previous owner on the front endpaper.  Light foxing to some pages.  Both hinges slightly cracked but all pages are firm and the book is in very good condition.  x, 363 pages, plus publisher's catalogue 40 pages.  23 x 15 cm.
