In 1945, Collins, of St. James Place, London published Butterflies, the first title in the New Naturalist Library, a series of books on British Natural History in iconic dustjackets, with the aim of interesting the general reader in the wildlife of Britain by recapturing the enquiring spirit of the old naturalists. This is Number 108 in the series.
