A grand Louis XV potpourri bowl having the typical Chinese design of four lobed porcelain with cobalt blue flowers and butterflys on a ground of imperial yellow.

With ormolu gilt bronze embellishments of a reticulated fragrance collar and royal crown finial.

It stands on a ormolu gilt bronze base with swags of flowers and four Acanthus leaf feet.

This is the French Rococo style that was new and fashionable in the 1700s period.

Alongside Louis XV, in China this was the reign of the Emperor of the 1700s. So this is extremely valuable period Qianlong porcelain.

One of the large potpourri bowls. A heavy statement piece.

Hand painted porcelain with wonderful tones of blue and yellow, and nuances of tone in each colour.

High quality bronze casting, crisp and densely patterned.

The French in the 18th century used their own porcelain and Chinese porcelain, adding ormolu mounts to make potpourri bowls.

The bronze metalwork is old world in its manufacture. It is thick, and the undersides are rougher looking. Modern manufacturing is penny pinching, thin, and more smoothly made by machines.

The patination of the porcelain and bronze are correct for its age. The porcelain has crackled all over inside and out, and the bronze in places has darkened to the deep brown it goes to.

The ormolu gilding is showing the passage of time, but we have left it like this, as collectors like pieces completely honest.

It stands a large 29cm tall.

Condition is perfect.

Louis XV, King of France was born in The Palace Of Versailles in 1710, and reigned until his death in 1774. He was known as 'Louis The Beloved'.

An absolutely amazing piece from history. Very rare, very exclusive, that only the well heeled could afford to own.
