Antique Tea Kettle

Dimensions are approximately:

height to top of fist: 21cms (8 1/4" ins)
length handle to spout: 23cms (9" ins)
capacity: 4 cups approx

This antique tea kettle was possibly manufactured in Germany early 1900's.

The kettle is decorated with a basket weave pattern to the top band and a rather elaborate Celtic design to the lower. Interesting features are the fist to the top of the fixed handle with the adjoining hook for hanging.  This tea kettle was likely made to fit and hang on a stand with a burner underneath.  Further decoration to the handle are the two faces/macrons on either end.
The only identifying mark is the tiny Eagle stamp underneath possibly indicating German company Bruckmann & Sohne as the makers.  All rather intriguing!  What could the design depict and why....?

a great addition to a collection...

As the years pass, these lovely antique items become more precious... pieces are damaged, lost or collections are broken up.  The good news for collectors is that quality pieces should not only hold their value but increase over time.

Condition:
Good/Fair vintage condition commensurate for age and use.  Some small dents hardly noticeable.  Aged patina... copper is now a brown colour... knob to lid missing otherwise in good order.  Clearly very well crafted...

Additional Info:

The history of the kettle stretches far back. Originally an open cauldron for heating water which slowly morphed into what we recognize today.  Indeed every home today has a kettle of some sort...
Looking back to to the early 18th century tea was first imported from the Orient but was still considered a luxury.  As the century progressed the Dutch East India Company starting importing tea directly from China and tea became less expensive and more popular.  Vessels were manufactured to keep up with demand.  Initially silver was the material used for manufacture but expensive.  Copper is a natural heat conductor and was the metal of choice for a wider production of tea kettles and also more affordable to the masses. Various kettle designs and stands were created with spirit kettles featuring an open flame underneath being the the most recognized.
