While sharing similarities with its two predecessors, "Gargoyle" has a significant increase in the powerful and confident sound of songs such as "Nocturne" and "Beehive". The lyrics in this album have a more diverse range of tones. The title of the album comes from a line in the song "Blue Blue Sea" - "Gargoyle perched on gothic spire" - which was chosen because it hints at self-deprecation. "I'm most proud of the songs that are different from what I've done in the past", says Mark. "For example, I really like 'Old Swan' because it expresses positivity, which is completely different from anything I've done before!".
