ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS LISTING:

This is about a bombardier in the 8th Air Force  331st Bomb Squadron.  He began flying mission in February 1944. and finished in June 1944.

Gary A. Best's book Bell Of The Brawl is a first-rate read about a young man going off to war, becoming a bombardier on a B-17, and of the letters he wrote home to his mom.

The letters that Fred Lull wrote home are very interesting and show the love and concern he had for his mom. He was always concerned about her health, how she was doing and was also concerned about their finances. He told her of his experiences at each place he was stationed and what he did when he was on leave. He told her aout the missions he flew but he never gave his mom cause to worry in his letters. He always left out details of the war itself and always expressed to her that everything was all right.

I found it very interesting how, after reading a few of the letters that Fred's mom wrote, that, like him, you find that you begin to look forward to reading that next letter from home. You really begin to feel like you're in his place after awhile. It becomes very hard to put this book down because you want to get to that next letter.
