A 19th century Chinese blue and white stoneware glazed Ginger jar.

The history of ginger jars can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) in China. Originally used to store ginger, garlic, and other spices, ginger jars became increasingly popular during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) as a decorative item.

They were often used to store tea leaves, and the intricate designs and glazes were a reflection of the owner's wealth and status. By the 19th century, ginger jars had become a highly sought-after item in Europe and America, and were often used as a decorative vase or urn.

Height: Approximately 15cm

This Ginger jar is in good antique condition, with a couple of old chips around the rim and some expected crazing to the glaze. Missing Lid.
