I have here for sale a book entitled BIG HORSE'S FLIGHT The Trail of War in Central Asia by SVEN HEDIN Translated by F H Lyon published by Macmillan and Co. Ltd., London, in 1936.  First edition.  In August 1933 Sven Hedin was commissioned by the Central Government in Nanking to conduct and expedition to Sinkiang in order to mark out two motor roads between China proper and the remote province.  In this book, the first of three, he tells the story of the bloody war which made a desert of Sinkiang from 1931 to 1934, the last stage of which entangled the expedition.  The book includes 122 full-page b/w plates, one of which is fold-out, and a colour fold-out map at the back of the book illustrating the Course of the Expedition.

Black cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  Minor marks on the boards.  Ink splat marks on the endpapers, bottom page edges and on quite a few pages.  Name of previous owner on the front endpaper.  All pages are firm and the book is in good condition.  xv, 247 pages.  22.5 x 15.5 cm.
