Gladys Brown Edwards

1949 Dodge ASB Saddlebred Trophy

This is a beautiful trophy American Saddlebred Horse designed by Gladys Brown.  Gladys and produced by Dodge.  Gladys Brown Edwards was a well-recognized horse and animal artist and an expert on conformation. She was frequently a contributor to trade magazines for much of her life.  Although she was especially well known in Arabian horse and American Saddlebred horse circles, her designs for bovines and dogs are also coveted.

This trophy is solidly cast brass metal. The base is bakelite or lucite.  The inside of the base is marked Dodge Inc. and the bolted washers are labeled Moran Trophy Company, Michigan. The win plate is engraved Northville Junior Horse Show 1949.  If you want to reverse the horse on the pedestal, it looks like you should be able to unscrew it and turn it around, therefore you can display it left or right facing, with or without the win-plate.

The patina is very nice and the finish is in great vintage condition. There are no breaks and no cracks. The trophy measures 10 inches tall and 10 inches wide at wood base.  It weighs 4 3/4 pounds.
